You Don’t Know Jersey is psyched to premiere the song “Broke & Blue” from Long Beach Island band The Off White. The tune is from their forthcoming first full length album Don’t Take Kindly.
The first time I heard them I immediately dug their low-fi garage, psychedelic vibe. The band is brothers Sean and Justin Jones on guitars, Mike Bongi on bass, and Pat Brenner on drums and vocals. They say they drew their inspiration from living on the lonesome barrier island with no one but cops, retirees and closed beach marts to speak of. It is pretty exciting to see such a raucous band of manics come out of this place known for its safe, wholesome family fun. Rowdy, debauched rock and roll sounds like wholesome fun to me!
“Broke & Blue” is a great example of what The Off White are all about. This is fun, genuine low-fi greatness here. The number has a punk rock start to before delving into a 60s psychedelic tinged sing along style that is guaranteed to get you moving. Think The Ramones meet The Monks. I really dig this. To paraphrase Bill Murray in Stripes, I want to party with this band.
Don’t Take Kindly will be out on April 7th on CD from Little Dickman Records. It will be released digitally later this spring.
