Celebrate the Rest of National Ice Cream Month at Ice Cream by Mike

Ice Cream by Mike has “the best ice cream this side of the Hackensack River.” It’s some of the best handmade ice cream we’ve tasted in New Jersey, for sure, whichever side of the river we’re on. It’s creamier than most ice creams and each flavor we tried was richer than the last. Seriously, the flavors Mike gets packed into those amazing scoops are simply awesome.

We all chose sundaes for this visit and I had scoops of chocolate and pistachio.

The chocolate was impossibly creamy and went well with my Heath bar and chocolate sauce toppings. We got a homemade whipped cream on top, too, and the vanilla bean seeds were visible throughout.

Thankfully, I got to the pistachio last because I wouldn’t have appreciated the chocolate scoop once I tried the life-changing flavor. Really, I mean that. It changed how I will look at pistachio ice cream from now on. Mike said that he uses pistachio oil in the ice cream along with whole nuts. I have never tasted such a full pistachio taste like this. If you are even just partially fond of this flavor, you’ve just GOT to try Mike’s.

Ed had scoops of banana and salted caramel with chocolate sauce and peanut toppings.

The banana taste, like the pistachio, was extremely flavorful. Wow! How does he get so much flavor into this ice cream?? Ed considered getting caramel sauce to up the caramel flavor on his sundae but Mike recommended against. He was right, those scoops are so chock-full of flavor that adding more caramel would have overpowered the sundae. Listen to Mike!

Ed’s mom also had the salted caramel and tried the coffee flavor, too, with chocolate sauce and wet walnuts. Those wet walnuts were terrific. I was jealous.
