Cookman Creamery in Asbury Park was where we decided to kick off our National Ice Cream Month coverage this year and we’re glad we did!

They have lots of cool flavors that are all made in-house.

And, they have a giant vegan ice cream selection! The second picture above is part of the vegan selections.  You can’t tell by looking at them that they’re free of all animal products.  They’re as creamy and yummy as the dairy versions. The Almond Joy in the middle was especially good.

This is an all-vegan cone and it was delicious. They have sugar cones, cake cones and waffle cones and they’re all vegan so I got to pick whichever I wanted.  After trying a few of the vegan ice creams, I decided to go with chocolate peanut butter crunch and mint chip.  The vegan ice creams all have a coconut milk base and with the lighter flavors like the mint chip there was a slight coconut taste.  If you don’t like coconut but still want vegan you should stick with the bolder flavors like the chocolate peanut butter crunch.  I would have never guessed that it was anything but a full-dairy ice cream!

Ed went for the traditional dairy flavors.  Obviously, we were on the same wavelength because we unintentionally got the same flavors!  His hot fudge sundae had the dairy versions of chocolate peanut butter and mint chip.  They were both amazing.

Cookman Creamery held a contest for new ice cream flavors and we’re in the running for People’s Choice. On a whim, I entered an all-NJ ice cream and it made the short list.  Winners will be announced later today so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
