We’re getting started on our Seventh Annual YDKJ Hot Dog Tour this month. I can’t believe we’ve been sampling hot dogs all over New Jersey for seven years! This year we started in Clifton, home to two of the most famous hot dog places in the entire state. But, we didn’t go to Rutt’s Hut or Hot Grill. This time we drove to Getty Avenue by the Corrado’s complex for dogs from Shake and Grill.
Never heard of them? Maybe you’ve heard of Papaya King? Well, this used to be one and they have the same kind of tubesteaks. Thin and spicy with a little crisp from the grill, these are all-beef dogs that are really good. The day we visited we saw the papaya drink machine but it wasn’t turned on.
Maybe they’re moving away from the papaya identity? Who knows, we were there for hot dogs and they were delicious.
We got three “all the way” and one Columbian dog. The chili was plentiful and not spicy. The spice from the hot dogs were really the main thing we could taste.
The Columbian dog was outstanding!
The spicy hot dog this time came with curly fries, cheese sauce, ketchup, mayo and raw onions. Wow! The curly fries added a great crunch and the mayo was something unexpectedly yummy.
We’ll definitely be coming back to try more of these cool topping combos.
