We are thrilled to premiere Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son‘s new video for “The Outskirts” today.

This amazing song is a guitar rock lover’s dream. It has that perfect, classic New Jersey rock sound which artists like Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny have honed over decades of playing. Mahoney and his band have only been at it for less than 5 years and they’re really making some great music. Impressive.

Though it has that classic aura, title track “The Outskirts” also sounds fresh and vital. Mahoney’s voice is gravelly yet soulful which perfectly complements the soaring guitars and full throttle chorus. You can positively feel the emotion when he shouts “I’m wasting away in a rain soaked shirt, you let me down on the damned outskirts” as the video cuts between the band rocking out and Mahoney singing under that most ubiquitous of New Jersey roadside symbols; power lines. It is symbolic as the band clearly has high levels of electricity.

A wonderful solo leads us to the last part of the video as the song shifts a bit in style and Mahoney’s voracious vocals reach fever pitch as he and the band are surrounded by friends who are feeding off his energy.

Bottom line is this is what I want the current sound of straight ahead Jersey rock to sound like. The playing is solid and very well produced and director Zack Morrison does an outstanding job behind the camera.

Without further ado, the video:
