dollys opened their three week fall tour Wednesday night at Asbury Lanes and confirmed themselves as one of the most innovative indie pop bands around today. As displayed on their recently released brilliant LP Oh, Please, the band crafts some amazing songs with great harmonies, creative tempos, and playful, intelligent lyrics. The songs come across very well live and the band play with great energy. Guitarist Jeff Lane, drummer Natalie Newbold, and bassist Erik Romero feed off each other and that makes for a dynamic set.
Also on the bill were Hodera, who also released one of our favorite records of the year so far, United by Birdcalls, Asbury Park band The Cold Seas who just released their EP Afterglow, Goodbye Tiger who will be opening for Coheed and Cambria at the Stone Pony on October 11, and the rocking fun of Bradley Cooper, the grop consisting of members of dollys and Deal Casino.
The event was great to photograph as the fog machine was in overdrive for many of the sets and it made for some striking images. All the bands were awesome. If you haven’t seen dollys live yet you are really missing out.
