We get some of our best food recommendation from New Jersey’s best bands. In fact many of the places we have visited recently during National Pizza Month have come from musicians. They know their pizza! Nino’s Coal Fired Pizza came highly recommended from drummer John Tacon of Brick + Mortar. Whoa momma, was this a great recommendation!
Nino’s Coal Fired Pizza has a few locations around Brick and Tom’s River but John told us to go to the one in Brick.
We had a larger crew than we are used to for a review so we took advantage of all the mouths and ordered four pies. There wasn’t a bad pizza in the bunch.
This is the Chicken Marsala pizza. There is nothing except a crust that tastes like a pizza but it doesn’t matter. It’s like eating a dish of chicken marsala with a bread stick. It’s delicious and a nice change of pace from tomato sauce and cheese.
Speaking of sauce and cheese, here’s Nino’s Tomato Pie. Their San Marzano sauce is either the best I’ve ever had or at least in the top three sauces. Yes, it’s that good. Topped with mozzarella, fresh basil and imported olive oil, this pie was simply perfection. Their crusts are a little thicker than the usual NJ slice but we all really liked the chewy and charred crust fresh out of the big coal fired oven.
This is the Rabe and Sausage offering which featured homemade sausage and nice fresh broccoli rabe. Wow, that sausage was something special! And the fresh broccoli rabe added a great bite.
Finally, we tried the Bella Bianco pizza which was my personal favorite despite not having their fantastic sauce. It came with ricotta, mozzarella, garlic, imported olive oil, parmesan and basil. It was so good that I ate way too many slices.
Thank you, John, for this amazing recommendation. Do yourselves a favor and go to one of Nino’s locations and try these pies out for yourself.
