OnlyInYourState.com recently published a list of Unique Coffee Shops in New Jersey and there were a few that we hadn’t been to.  That couldn’t stand, of course, so off to Sussex County we went to try Cloveberry in Sparta.

Boy, have we been missing out! Nestled in lovely downtown Sparta, Cloveberry was great.  The coffee was organic and fair trade and the food was local and organic when possible and all delicious.

We started with coffees and a gluten-free blueberry muffin.

We’re lucky to not have to look for gluten-free food all the time but I do like to try stuff once in a while just to see how it tastes.  This muffin had a spongy texture that isn’t common in glutinous muffins but it wasn’t unpleasant at all…  just a hint of something different.  There were lots of blueberries and it was big enough for everyone at the table to try some.

We tried two breakfast dishes. First, cranberry almond oatmeal which was really good.

It had dried cranberries and blueberries along with almonds and flax meal sprinkled on top.  It warmed me up on a cool morning and was a nice plentiful serving without being a giant bowl of oatmeal.

The other two at our table both had the Breakfast Burrito. It came with local farm fresh eggs, cheddar, avocado, black beans and house made ranchero sauce.  It was very fresh and very filling.  It came with nice slices of banana and apple which we really liked.
Everything on the menu at Cloveberry looked great and we can’t wait to come back and try more!
