Have you been to Sunrise Luncheonette in Trenton? Scott Miller, who runs the Pork Roll Festival, talks about it a lot so we recently made a pilgrimage there. It’s great!
The pork roll burger was well-grilled and had about one part beef burger to two parts pork roll. Wow, what a sandwich! It came with cheese, onions, lettuce and tomato on a big kaiser roll.
They definitely know what they’re doing in the pork roll department! Most pork roll comes out of Trenton so it’s no wonder Sunrise does it right.
The soup of the day when we went was vegetable rice and it was also really good.
The soup had a great herbal quality and was nice and thick. It was practically a stew!
We also had to try their brie and grilled onion grilled cheese sandwich as soon as it was spotted on the menu.
It was nearly a dessert sandwich with the sweet cheese and carmelized onions but it tasted great for lunch, anyway. There was plenty of onions and cheese filling the sandwich and the bread was perfectly crisp.
We also got a chicken finger appetizer which wasn’t our favorite.
The tenders were pretty bland and very small. They also had a ton of breading and barely any meat. If you’re coming to Sunrise Luncheonette for a meaty meal, you should stick to the pork roll sandwiches for sure!
The restaurant itself is clean but basic. It’s a step back in time to the luncheonettes of old.
I also liked the chalkboard that people wrote reviews on. Cute touch!
Check out all the pictures from our visit to Sunrise Luncheonette and make sure you stop by some day for some of the best classic pork roll sandwiches in New Jersey.
