We’re highlighting all the New Jersey Olympians this summer because there are so many to watch for. Jordan Burroughs is a freestyle wrestler from Sicklerville and will compete for the United States in Rio.

Jordan Burroughs was born in Camden and grew up in Sicklerville. He’s heading to London to compete in the 74 kg Freestyle wrestling weight class. He caught the attention of Deadspin.com during the last Olympics for the extreme confidence on his website and his Twitter account. How cool is that?

Jordan wrestled at Winslow Township High School. During his high school career he won three district championships and two regional championships, and in 2006, he captured a state title at 135 pounds. He committed to the University of Nebraska as the seventh ranked 135 pounder in the country and went on to a terrific college career up until graduation in 2011.

He won the gold medal in the 2012 Olympics in London.  We expect nothing less from him this year, too!  Since the London Olympics, he’s gotten married and he and his wife have had a son and daughter who are prominently featured in the many news stories about him lately.  They are adorable all together.

Wrestling begins August 14th and continues through August 21st.

We’ll keep you apprised of when each NJ athlete will compete so stay tuned to YDKJ for all the NJ Olympian news you can handle!
