The 2nd Annual Asbury Park Promenade of Mermaids delighted beachgoers up and down the boardwalk of the Monmouth County city on Saturday afternoon. Mermaids of all kinds paraded in the seaside town in wonderfully creative and colorful costumes.
Mermaids and mermen were joined by pirates, sea monsters and even a few zombies at the all ages event. Our friends Jeff and Jessie Wickliffe, who also took part in the inaugural event last year, said attendance was much greater in both marchers and spectators this year. That is a good sign that this event is well on its way to becoming as popular as the zombie walk has become in the town. As word of mouth gets out about the event it should grow every year. Many people were unaware the event was taking place on the day but seemed thrilled while watching the promenade.
