Asbury Park was the place to be on Saturday as the city was abuzz with numerous events. One of the clear highlights was the Asbury Park Surf Music Festival at The Anchor’s Bend in Convention Hall. Dubbed the East Coast’s #1 surf music event, the show was jam-packed with awesome surf music all day and into the night. In its third year the event just keeps getting better.
Surf bands from around the East Coast took part including New Jersey bands Bongo Surf, Blue Wave Theory and Asbury Park’s own Black Flamingos. There was a special guest band, Messer Chups, who came all the way from St. Petersburg, Russia on their first US tour.
People were having a blast enjoying beverages served in tiki cups with paper umbrellas while dancing in the sand or hanging out in beach chairs while folks swam in the waves just a short distance away in the ocean.
It was a gorgeous day to enjoy the surf and sand along with some great surf music all day long.
