The 26th Annual Jersey City Art & Studio Tour takes place this Saturday and Sunday October 8th and 9th and is one of New Jersey’s premier art events. All around Jersey City, local artists will present visual art, performances, music and cultural programming in open studios, galleries, public spaces and mixed-use venues. It is a celebration of the talented and diverse creative community in the Hudson County city. Support your local artists and by visiting the galleries and buying their work.
One of the featured artists is our friend Kayt Hester. She works with tape and her incredibly creative pieces are guaranteed conversation starters. Kayt’s art, along with the art of her friends Beth Achenbach, David Dzemian and Renee Dwyer, can found in the Mary Benson Gallery at 369 3rd Street.
I myself will actually have a photograph displayed during this year’s event. I captured Ricky Lorenzo of Hightstown band YJY at the North Jersey Indie Rock Festival in Jersey City a few weekends ago and I was asked if I wanted to submit it to the Day in the Life JC exhibit curated by Honey and Moon Photography. On September 10th people grabbed their cameras and took photographs all around the city to show a cross section of life in town. I entered my photo and it was chosen as one of the included 48 photos to be part of the project which will also include a banner at City Hall.
There will be a JCAST Kick Off Party Friday night at their Flagship Gallery at 150 Pacific Avenue. It will feature over 40,000 square feet of visual artwork, installation, performance, handmade art and more.
