Saturday night Alice and I headed down to The Overlook in Convention Hall in Asbury Park to celebrate 5 years of Cool Dad Music, the authoritative and influential music website run by Jim Appio that covers artists all over New Jersey, and beyond. In those five years I’ve gotten to not only know Jim but develop a friendship that I hold dear. We have had many animated conversations about music and more often than not we tend to agree when it comes to music. Perhaps this is so as we are close in age and came to appreciate the indie artists of the 80s and 90s. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of New Jersey music should have Cool Dad Music in their bookmarks. It is a vital resource.
Saturday night, Jim invited some bands out who are very special to him and have been his favorites in those 5 years. The RocknRoll Hi-Fives, Smalltalk, Shellshag and dollys all turned in amazing sets for Cool Dad. Of course the Cool Daughters were on hand at the merch table. Cool Mom was on hand as well and let me know Jim was a little nervous even though he told me he wasn’t. It was a wonderful night of family, friends and music.
I broke out my camera for the first time in a while. A little out of practice but I hope my pictures convey a bit of what made the night special.
Here’s to another 5 years, at least, of Cool Dad Music.
