We solely went to Apple’s Deli because we heard that they had the famous Syd’s dog on the menu. We were not disappointed. The dog was huge and delicious. We tried one plain and one with sauerkraut and mustard. It was meaty enough to hold up to the toppings and we really appreciated the well-seasoned tube steak in plain form.
Syd’s was a local favorite in New Jersey for many years before they closed. They were famous for this giant hot dog they had specially made. Apple’s has recreated it and it’s amazing. This should definitely be a stop on your own NJ Hot Dog Tour if you’re interested in trying a taste of local history.
We also tried the grilled cheese which came with a ton of cheese and was very well-grilled. Exactly how I like it!
Finally, we couldn’t resist the Thanksgiving sandwich. The turkey tasted freshly roasted and was sliced very generously. It came with moist stuffing and lots of cranberry sauce. Any day can be Thanksgiving at Apple’s Deli!
