Powerlines is powerful. They are a New Brunswick-based band comprised of vocalist Deanna DiLandro, guitarist Tyler Anderson, bassist Matt Diionno and drummer Christian Negri. Having played shows in the New Brunswick areas for the past two years, Powerlines has finally blessed us with something we can listen to anytime, anywhere.
Their debut single “Supermoon” is an epic 6-minute piece, carrying us through space along with them. It starts out with a tight groove and a gentle melody before it opens up on the chorus, where DiLandro shows off the strength of her vocals, drawing us in with lines like, “We’re losing control / Let the pull take hold / Never find a way home / Always in motion.” This song paints the picture of a transient, fully aware of their own smallness in the context of the Universe. Yet this song is anything but small. With the vocabulary of a well-versed astronomist, Powerlines encourages us to embrace our existence despite everything we cannot change. The balance of energy and emotion on this track is striking, and I can’t wait to see what else Powerlines has in store for us.
