John Cozz knows Jersey. It is in his blood, skin, soul. Alice and I have enjoyed his company—usually with our mutual friend Max “Snax” Rauch—going out for New Jersey classic food many times. I mean he wore a homemade Rutt’s Hut cap the time we went to Rutt’s Hut. C’mon! He also happens to be an incredibly talented musician and filmmaker which is why we are way stoked to be premiering his new video, filmed in Atlantic City, for “Braincation.”
The fuzzed out tune gets a Sopranos meets Pulp Fiction vibe here that is gloriously grungy and, well, Jersey. Shot and edited by John-Carlo Monti, the video has glimpses of AC landmarks like Caesars, James’ Salt Water Taffy and Play Ground II. Atlantic City mixes with the waves, a Ferris wheel and waking up under a life boat to create a dreamlike vision of a last chance at something big. Then the video takes a turn to what I think is a magical place. Cozz wakes up in a dingy hotel room to the brightness of a television screen like a heavenly vision. The vision of the classic NJ hangover breakfast sandwich; Taylor ham, egg & cheese on a bagel. “Whaddya mean you call it pork roll???”
This might just be the most Jersey video we’ve ever premiered and we love it more and more each time we watch it. Check it out for yourself below.
The song will be on his upcoming album out on Sniffling Indie Kids.
