Want to know where we’re going each week so you can join us? We get invited to events, hear about fun exhibits and are interested in lots of different places all the time. Here’s what is on our radar this week. We can’t guarantee that we’ll go to all these places but there’s a good chance we’ll be at some of them. Support local arts or get outside and do something with us!
Lara Herscovitch, Deivito: Glen Ridge Singer Songwriter Series
Friday, November 1, Glen Ridge Train Station
The Glen Ridge Singer Songwriter Series showcases local musicians in a unique setting. The Glen Ridge Train Station is a Queen Anne-style building originally constructed in 1887.
LARA HERSCOVITCH, with Stephen Murphy
Lara Herscovitch is a modern American songwriter-poet-performer, creating masterful contemporary folk with blues, pop and jazz influences. Former State Troubadour of Connecticut, she writes, sings and leads with authenticity, integrity, humor and heart, delivering performances that inspire, inform, uplift and entertain.
Sound Waves Magazine described her music as “expertly written prose… songwriting at its best… good for your ears AND your soul.” Delivered with a voice Performer Magazine called “clear and smooth like expensive liquor,” Acoustic Live in New York City added, “She possesses not only a huge reservoir of musical talent and a voice with a bell-like clarity, but a keen sense of global concern and a fierce intellect… It might seem too good to be true, but true it is.”
Herscovitch is “a remarkable performer” (WSHU Public Radio), “sharp as a tack (and wickedly funny)… polished, confident, talented” (Scenic Root). She has appeared as a guest on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor and tours from Maine to Miami.
Herscovitch has also worked in the US, Latin America and Asia, on behalf of disadvantaged communities — focusing on education, community development and juvenile and criminal justice reform. Echoes of these themes are in her music: “Singer-songwriter Lara Herscovitch doesn’t write songs just for the ears, but also for the heart and soul” (Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal).
