If there’s two things I love it’s my mom’s cooking and coffee. Please enjoy as we explore all the ways to combine cooking and coffee.
This dish was inspired by a trip my grandparents and great uncles took to New Orleans many years ago.

The story goes that on their annual vacation they would always try to save a buck on food. On their trip to NOLA they noticed that everywhere they went the dishes had shrimp so they decided to cook their own. Given that they were on a road trip, they didn’t have many tools to cook. My great uncle Joe decided to cook the shrimp in the hot water from the coffee maker in the pot. The rest of the trip my grandmother complained the coffee tasted like shrimp.

Hopefully no one is getting a hint of shrimp in their coffee but if you are I really messed up the roast….

Coffee Pot Shrimp Scampi Recipe
Pasta Dough
Equal parts semolina and 00 flour
2 eggs
Combine flour and form a well to crack eggs into.
Break egg yolks and incorporate flour into yolks.
Work with a fork until a semi solid dough has formed.
Knead for 5 to ten minutes into a smooth round ball.
Use rolling pin to roll ball into a thin sheet.
Roll up dough and begin cutting strips of pasta.
Hang to dry.
Add to the top basket of the coffee maker.
Shrimp scampi
Shrimp
Garlic
Butter
Olive oil
White wine
Lemon
Capers
Combine above ingredients inside a coffee pot and run a brew cycle on the machine. Be sure not to use too much water as your sauce will become too watery. Once the brew cycle is completed take the pasta out of the top basket and let it soak in the juices in the pot. Allow pasta and shrimp to sit in the pot as the hot plate finishes cooking it. Pour it out and enjoy!
