My Heart is Contented: Fake Pockets Release “Reverie” Music Video

Three years ago, Fake Pockets released perhaps the most overlooked record of 2020. Just as a number of national tragedies collided, they issued their Mint 400 debut Magnolia Street to a collective shrug. By no fault of their own, that little EP simply couldn’t compete with everything else happening around them; a sentiment which the band, by and large, agrees with.

So, if any of our favorite locals earned themselves a mulligan, it was Fake Pockets! And here we have them making the most of the opportunity with the Kris Khunachak-directed music video for their latest single, “Reverie.”

The tune itself (available everywhere music is streamed) has been a setlist staple for years and while the group agreed that the video would be a simple play-through, Khunachak keeps things moving along with a variety of quick cuts and interesting angles.

Musically, the band is tight as ever. Drummer Jake Resnick locks the rhythm down while frontwoman Devon Alana reasserts herself as one of the best singers in the NJ music scene. Meanwhile, newcomer Cara Introcaso has turned out to be a perfect fit, adding clean, expert-level guitar-playing and complimentary harmonies. Meanwhile, said bassist Bill Lambusta with a laugh, “It was actually the best I ever played the song!”

Fake Pockets will be releasing their EP also titled Reverie on Friday June 2nd via Mint 400 Records. They’ll be performing June 16th on the Baronet Rooftop at the Asbury Hotel to celebrate its release alongside labelmates The Extensions and Asbury Park stalwarts The Foes of Fern, each of whom also have records coming out in June. Limited tickets are still available, though this show will likely sell out.
